Bill Analysis
H7593 removes the sales tax on firearm safety and storage equipment. It is a new exemption added to Rhode Island’s existing list of sales tax exclusions, making gun safes, locks, and cases more affordable for law-abiding gun owners.
The Key Change
H7593 adds subsection (69) to Rhode Island’s sales tax exemption statute (44-18-30), exempting from sales and use tax the purchase of: firearm safety equipment, storage devices, gun safes, gun cabinets, gun vaults, gun cases, strong boxes, cable locks, trigger locks, and biometric locks.
What It Means for Gun Owners
Rhode Island gun owners would no longer pay sales tax on secure storage products. This reduces the cost of responsible firearm storage and applies to both retail purchases and online orders shipped to Rhode Island.
